2025-06-24Don't include current rustc version string in feature removed helpJieyou Xu-1/+0
The version string is difficult to properly normalize out, and removing it isn't a huge deal (the user can query version info easily through `rustc --version` or `cargo --version`). The normalization options were all non-ideal: - Per-test version string normalization is nasty to maintain, and we need to maintain `n` copies of it. - Centralized compiletest normalization (with a directive opt-out) is also not ideal, because `cfg(version(..))` tests can't have those accidentally normalized out (and you'd have to remember to opt-out).

2025-04-30Simplify `LazyAttrTokenStream`.Nicholas Nethercote-4/+4
This commit does the following. - Changes it from `Lrc<Box<dyn ToAttrTokenStream>>` to `Lrc<LazyAttrTokenStreamInner>`. - Reworks `LazyAttrTokenStreamImpl` as `LazyAttrTokenStreamInner`, which is a two-variant enum. - Removes the `ToAttrTokenStream` trait and the two impls of it. The recursion limit must be increased in some crates otherwise rustdoc aborts.
2025-04-21Remove `token::{Open,Close}Delim`.Nicholas Nethercote-4/+1
By replacing them with `{Open,Close}{Param,Brace,Bracket,Invisible}`. PR #137902 made `ast::TokenKind` more like `lexer::TokenKind` by replacing the compound `BinOp{,Eq}(BinOpToken)` variants with fieldless variants `Plus`, `Minus`, `Star`, etc. This commit does a similar thing with delimiters. It also makes `ast::TokenKind` more similar to `parser::TokenType`. This requires a few new methods: - `TokenKind::is_{,open_,close_}delim()` replace various kinds of pattern matches. - `Delimiter::as_{open,close}_token_kind` are used to convert `Delimiter` values to `TokenKind`. Despite these additions, it's a net reduction in lines of code. This is because e.g. `token::OpenParen` is so much shorter than `token::OpenDelim(Delimiter::Parenthesis)` that many multi-line forms reduce to single line forms. And many places where the number of lines doesn't change are still easier to read, just because the names are shorter, e.g.: ``` - } else if self.token != token::CloseDelim(Delimiter::Brace) { + } else if self.token != token::CloseBrace { ```
2025-04-02Remove `TokenStream::flattened` and `InvisibleOrigin::FlattenToken`.Nicholas Nethercote-6/+0
They are no longer needed. This does slightly worsen the error message for a single test, but that test contains code that is so badly broken that I'm not worried about it.
2025-04-02Remove `NtBlock`, `Nonterminal`, and `TokenKind::Interpolated`.Nicholas Nethercote-7/+1
`NtBlock` is the last remaining variant of `Nonterminal`, so once it is gone then `Nonterminal` can be removed as well.

2025-03-03Rename `ast::TokenKind::Not` as `ast::TokenKind::Bang`.Nicholas Nethercote-1/+1
For consistency with `rustc_lexer::TokenKind::Bang`, and because other `ast::TokenKind` variants generally have syntactic names instead of semantic names (e.g. `Star` and `DotDot` instead of `Mul` and `Range`).

2025-01-08Add a list of symbols for stable standard library cratesTrevor Gross-10/+7
There are a few locations where the crate name is checked against an enumerated list of `std`, `core`, `alloc`, and `proc_macro`, or some subset thereof. In most of these cases, all four crates should likely be treated the same. Change this so the crates are listed in one place, and that list is used wherever a list of `std` crates is needed. `test` could be considered relevant in some of these cases, but generally treating it separate from the others seems preferable while it is unstable. There are also a few places that Clippy will be able to use this.
2024-12-18Re-export more `rustc_span::symbol` things from `rustc_span`.Nicholas Nethercote-2/+1
`rustc_span::symbol` defines some things that are re-exported from `rustc_span`, such as `Symbol` and `sym`. But it doesn't re-export some closely related things such as `Ident` and `kw`. So you can do `use rustc_span::{Symbol, sym}` but you have to do `use rustc_span::symbol::{Ident, kw}`, which is inconsistent for no good reason. This commit re-exports `Ident`, `kw`, and `MacroRulesNormalizedIdent`, and changes many `rustc_span::symbol::` qualifiers in `compiler/` to `rustc_span::`. This is a 200+ net line of code reduction, mostly because many files with two `use rustc_span` items can be reduced to one.

2024-10-06Auto merge of #129670 - est31:cfg_attr_crate_type_name_error, r=Urgaubors-14/+5
Make deprecated_cfg_attr_crate_type_name a hard error Turns the forward compatibility lint added by #83744 into a hard error, so now, while the `#![crate_name]` and `#![crate_type]` attributes are still allowed in raw form, they are now forbidden to be nested inside a `#![cfg_attr()]` attribute. The following will now be an error: ```Rust #![cfg_attr(foo, crate_name = "foobar")] #![cfg_attr(foo, crate_type = "bin")] ``` This code will continue working and is not deprecated: ```Rust #![crate_name = "foobar"] #![crate_type = "lib"] ``` The reasoning for this is explained in #83744: it allows us to not have to cfg-expand in order to determine the crate's type and name. As of filing the PR, exactly two years have passed since #99784 has been merged, which has turned the lint's default warning level into an error, so there has been ample time to move off the now-forbidden syntax. cc #91632 - tracking issue for the lint

2024-07-29Reformat `use` declarations.Nicholas Nethercote-10/+10
The previous commit updated `rustfmt.toml` appropriately. This commit is the outcome of running `x fmt --all` with the new formatting options.

2024-07-24Improve spans on evaluated `cfg_attr`s.Nicholas Nethercote-28/+28
When converting something like `#![cfg_attr(cond, attr)]` into `#![attr]`, we currently duplicate the `#` token and the `!` token. But weirdly, there is also this comment: // We don't really have a good span to use for the synthesized `[]` // in `#[attr]`, so just use the span of the `#` token. Maybe that comment used to be true? But now it is false: we can duplicate the existing delimiters (and their spans and spacing), much like we do for the `#` and `!`. This commit does that, thus removing the incorrect comment, and improving the spans on `Group`s in a few proc-macro tests.

Explaining things that took me some time to work out.
2024-07-10Factor out `AttrsTarget` flattening code.Nicholas Nethercote-1/+4
This commit does the following. - Pulls the code out of `AttrTokenStream::to_token_trees` into a new function `attrs_and_tokens_to_token_trees`. - Simplifies `TokenStream::from_ast` by calling the new function. This is nicer than the old way, which created a temporary `AttrTokenStream` containing a single `AttrsTarget` (which required some cloning) just to call `to_token_trees` on it. (It is good to remove this use of `AttrsTarget` which isn't related to `cfg_attr` expansion.)
2024-07-10Use `cfg_attr` as a name more.Nicholas Nethercote-11/+11
In various functions where the attribute being processed is known to be a `#[cfg_attr(...)]` attribute. I find this a helpful reminder.
2024-07-10Rework `Attribute::get_tokens`.Nicholas Nethercote-3/+1
Returning `Vec<TokenTree>` works better for the call sites than returning `TokenStream`.
2024-07-07Use `filter_map` instead of `flat_map` in `configure_tokens`.Nicholas Nethercote-7/+5
All the branches produce either zero or one elements.
2024-07-07Rename some attribute types for consistency.Nicholas Nethercote-7/+7
- `AttributesData` -> `AttrsTarget` - `AttrTokenTree::Attributes` -> `AttrTokenTree::AttrsTarget` - `FlatToken::AttrTarget` -> `FlatToken::AttrsTarget`

2024-07-07Rename `Attribute::tokens` (the inherent method).Nicholas Nethercote-1/+1
To distinguish it from the `HasTokens` method.
