2022-07-13Rename `debugging_opts` to `unstable_opts`Joshua Nelson-5/+5
This is no longer used only for debugging options (e.g. `-Zoutput-width`, `-Zallow-features`). Rename it to be more clear.
2022-07-08Fix unreachable coverage generation for inlined functionsTomasz Miąsko-3/+9
To generate a function coverage we need at least one coverage counter, so a coverage from unreachable blocks is retained only when some live counters remain. The previous implementation incorrectly retained unreachable coverage, because it didn't account for the fact that those live counters can belong to another function due to inlining.

2022-05-02rustc: Panic by default in `DefIdTree::parent`Vadim Petrochenkov-1/+1
Only crate root def-ids don't have a parent, and in majority of cases the argument of `DefIdTree::parent` cannot be a crate root. So we now panic by default in `parent` and introduce a new non-panicing function `opt_parent` for cases where the argument can be a crate root. Same applies to `local_parent`/`opt_local_parent`.

Generate synthetic object file to ensure all exported and used symbols participate in the linking Fix #50007 and #47384 This is the synthetic object file approach that I described in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/95363#issuecomment-1079932354, allowing all exported and used symbols to be linked while still allowing them to be GCed. 2022-04-18Add `SymbolExportInfo`Gary Guo-2/+2
This is currently a wrapper to `SymbolExportLevel` but it allows later addition of extra information.
2022-04-17Stop using CRATE_DEF_INDEX.Camille GILLOT-3/+3
`CRATE_DEF_ID` and `CrateNum::as_def_id` are almost always what we want.
2022-03-30Spellchecking compiler commentsYuri Astrakhan-1/+1
This PR cleans up the rest of the spelling mistakes in the compiler comments. This PR does not change any literal or code spelling issues.
2022-02-20Auto merge of #94062 - Mark-Simulacrum:drop-print-cfg, r=oli-obkbors-1/+1
Move ty::print methods to Drop-based scope guards Primary goal is reducing codegen of the TLS access for each closure, which shaves ~3 seconds of bootstrap time over rustc as a whole.

2021-12-20[code coverage] Fix missing dead code in modules that are never calledWesley Wiser-0/+18
The issue here is that the logic used to determine which CGU to put the dead function stubs in doesn't handle cases where a module is never assigned to a CGU. The partitioning logic also caused issues in #85461 where inline functions were duplicated into multiple CGUs resulting in duplicate symbols. This commit fixes the issue by removing the complex logic used to assign dead code stubs to CGUs and replaces it with a much simplier model: we pick one CGU to hold all the dead code stubs. We pick a CGU which has exported items which increases the likelihood the linker won't throw away our dead functions and we pick the smallest to minimize the impact on compilation times for crates with very large CGUs. 2021-12-15Remove unnecessary sigils around `Symbol::as_str()` calls.Nicholas Nethercote-2/+2
2021-12-15Remove `SymbolStr`.Nicholas Nethercote-6/+6
By changing `as_str()` to take `&self` instead of `self`, we can just return `&str`. We're still lying about lifetimes, but it's a smaller lie than before, where `SymbolStr` contained a (fake) `&'static str`!

2021-10-19Auto merge of #89933 - est31:let_else, r=michaelwoeristerbors-3/+1
Adopt let_else across the compiler This performs a substitution of code following the pattern: ``` let <id> = if let <pat> = ... { identity } else { ... : ! }; ``` To simplify it to: ``` let <pat> = ... { identity } else { ... : ! }; ``` By adopting the `let_else` feature (cc #87335). The PR also updates the syn crate because the currently used version of the crate doesn't support `let_else` syntax yet. Note: Generally I'm the person who *removes* usages of unstable features from the compiler, not adds more usages of them, but in this instance I think it hopefully helps the feature get stabilized sooner and in a better state. I have written a [comment](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/87335#issuecomment-944846205) on the tracking issue about my experience and what I feel could be improved before stabilization of `let_else`.

2021-10-04polymorphize: don't normalize self-ty need substsDavid Wood-9/+16
`characteristic_def_id_of_type` was being invoked during partitioning for self types of impl blocks which had projections that depended on the value of unused generic parameters of a function, resulting in an ICE in the 'generic-names' debuginfo test. If partitioning is enabled and the instance needs substitution then this is now skipped. Signed-off-by: David Wood <david.wood@huawei.com>
