2015-12-18Make RFC 1214 warnings into errors, and rip out the "warn or err"Niko Matsakis-1/+1
associated machinery. Future such attempts should go through lints anyhow. There is a fair amount of fallout in the compile-fail tests, as WF checking now occurs earlier in the process.

2015-01-30std: Stabilize FromStr and parseAlex Crichton-1/+1
This commits adds an associated type to the `FromStr` trait representing an error payload for parses which do not succeed. The previous return value, `Option<Self>` did not allow for this form of payload. After the associated type was added, the following attributes were applied: * `FromStr` is now stable * `FromStr::Err` is now stable * `FromStr::from_str` is now stable * `StrExt::parse` is now stable * `FromStr for bool` is now stable * `FromStr for $float` is now stable * `FromStr for $integral` is now stable * Errors returned from stable `FromStr` implementations are stable * Errors implement `Display` and `Error` (both impl blocks being `#[stable]`) Closes #15138
2015-01-03Remove deprecated functionalityAlex Crichton-2/+1
This removes a large array of deprecated functionality, regardless of how recently it was deprecated. The purpose of this commit is to clean out the standard libraries and compiler for the upcoming alpha release. Some notable compiler changes were to enable warnings for all now-deprecated command line arguments (previously the deprecated versions were silently accepted) as well as removing deriving(Zero) entirely (the trait was removed). The distribution no longer contains the libtime or libregex_macros crates. Both of these have been deprecated for some time and are available externally.
2015-01-02std: Stabilize the prelude moduleAlex Crichton-0/+1
This commit is an implementation of [RFC 503][rfc] which is a stabilization story for the prelude. Most of the RFC was directly applied, removing reexports. Some reexports are kept around, however: * `range` remains until range syntax has landed to reduce churn. * `Path` and `GenericPath` remain until path reform lands. This is done to prevent many imports of `GenericPath` which will soon be removed. * All `io` traits remain until I/O reform lands so imports can be rewritten all at once to `std::io::prelude::*`. This is a breaking change because many prelude reexports have been removed, and the RFC can be consulted for the exact list of removed reexports, as well as to find the locations of where to import them. [rfc]: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/blob/master/text/0503-prelude-stabilization.md [breaking-change] Closes #20068
2014-10-29Rename fail! to panic!Steve Klabnik-1/+1
https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/221 The current terminology of "task failure" often causes problems when writing or speaking about code. You often want to talk about the possibility of an operation that returns a Result "failing", but cannot because of the ambiguity with task failure. Instead, you have to speak of "the failing case" or "when the operation does not succeed" or other circumlocutions. Likewise, we use a "Failure" header in rustdoc to describe when operations may fail the task, but it would often be helpful to separate out a section describing the "Err-producing" case. We have been steadily moving away from task failure and toward Result as an error-handling mechanism, so we should optimize our terminology accordingly: Result-producing functions should be easy to describe. To update your code, rename any call to `fail!` to `panic!` instead. Assuming you have not created your own macro named `panic!`, this will work on UNIX based systems: grep -lZR 'fail!' . | xargs -0 -l sed -i -e 's/fail!/panic!/g' You can of course also do this by hand. 2014-10-19Remove a large amount of deprecated functionalityAlex Crichton-1/+1
Spring cleaning is here! In the Fall! This commit removes quite a large amount of deprecated functionality from the standard libraries. I tried to ensure that only old deprecated functionality was removed. This is removing lots and lots of deprecated features, so this is a breaking change. Please consult the deprecation messages of the deleted code to see how to migrate code forward if it still needs migration. [breaking-change]

2014-03-12rustc: Remove matching on ~str from the languageMichael Darakananda-3/+3
The `~str` type is not long for this world as it will be superseded by the soon-to-come DST changes for the language. The new type will be `~Str`, and matching over the allocation will no longer be supported. Matching on `&str` will continue to work, in both a pre and post DST world.

2013-12-19Rename pkgid to crate_idCorey Richardson-1/+1
Closes #11035
2013-12-10Make crate hash stable and externally computable.Jack Moffitt-0/+2
This replaces the link meta attributes with a pkgid attribute and uses a hash of this as the crate hash. This makes the crate hash computable by things other than the Rust compiler. It also switches the hash function ot SHA1 since that is much more likely to be available in shell, Python, etc than SipHash. Fixes #10188, #8523.

2013-09-15Remove {uint,int,u64,i64,...}::from_str,from_str_radixblake2-ppc-1/+1
Remove these in favor of the two traits themselves and the wrapper function std::from_str::from_str. Add the function std::num::from_str_radix in the corresponding role for the FromStrRadix trait.

2013-05-14Use static string with fail!() and remove fail!(fmt!())Björn Steinbrink-1/+1
fail!() used to require owned strings but can handle static strings now. Also, it can pass its arguments to fmt!() on its own, no need for the caller to call fmt!() itself.
