2022-08-29Display raw pointer as `*{mut,const} T` instead of `*-ptr` in errorsnils-4/+4
The `*-ptr` is rather confusing, and we have the full information for properly displaying the information.
2022-08-07Remove even more box syntax uses from src/testest31-12/+22
Prior work, notably 6550021124451628b1efc60c59284465b109e3aa from #88316 has removed box syntax from most of the testsuite. However, some tests were left out. This commit removes box_syntax uses from more locations in src/test. Some tests that are very box syntax specific are not being migrated.

2021-12-11Tweak assoc type obligation spansEsteban Kuber-5/+0
* Point at RHS of associated type in obligation span * Point at `impl` assoc type on projection error * Reduce verbosity of recursive obligations * Point at source of binding lifetime obligation * Tweak "required bound" note * Tweak "expected... found opaque (return) type" labels * Point at set type in impl assoc type WF errors
2021-11-25On type mismatch caused by assignment, point at assigneeEsteban Küber-2/+6
* Do not emit unnecessary E0308 after E0070 * Show fewer errors on `while let` missing `let` * Hide redundant E0308 on `while let` missing `let` * Point at binding definition when possible on invalid assignment * do not point at closure twice * do not suggest `if let` for literals in lhs * account for parameter types
2021-10-13Always check predicates in can_coerceTyler Mandry-8/+4
This only changed two tests and I consider both changes an improvement.
2021-08-20Update old box expression tests and add a new one.Anton Golov-26/+14
New tests also check that we're not triggering this error over-zealously.

2020-09-02pretty: trim paths of unique symbolsDan Aloni-13/+13
If a symbol name can only be imported from one place for a type, and as long as it was not glob-imported anywhere in the current crate, we can trim its printed path and print only the name. This has wide implications on error messages with types, for example, shortening `std::vec::Vec` to just `Vec`, as long as there is no other `Vec` importable anywhere. This adds a new '-Z trim-diagnostic-paths=false' option to control this feature. On the good path, with no diagnosis printed, we should try to avoid issuing this query, so we need to prevent trimmed_def_paths query on several cases. This change also relies on a previous commit that differentiates between `Debug` and `Display` on various rustc types, where the latter is trimmed and presented to the user and the former is not.

2019-10-15Use structured suggestion for restricting boundsEsteban Küber-2/+4
When a trait bound is not met and restricting a type parameter would make the restriction hold, use a structured suggestion pointing at an appropriate place (type param in param list or `where` clause). Account for opaque parameters where instead of suggesting extending the `where` clause, we suggest appending the new restriction: `fn foo(impl Trait + UnmetTrait)`.

2018-10-21Use new region infer errors for explaining borrowsMatthew Jasper-24/+19
This gives at least some explanation for why a borrow is expected to last for a certain free region. Also: * Reports E0373: "closure may outlive the current function" with NLL. * Special cases the case of returning a reference to (or value referencing) a local variable or temporary (E0515). * Special case assigning a reference to a local variable in a closure to a captured variable.
2018-10-17Update output for borrowck=migrate compare mode.David Wood-2/+40
This commit updates the test output for the updated NLL compare mode that uses `-Z borrowck=migrate` rather than `-Z borrowck=mir`. The previous commit changes `compiletest` and this commit only updates `.nll.stderr` files.
